چکیده
This project deals with two types of nonlinear Interaction of Intense laser beam with dielectric medium. The first and extensively studied phenomenon Is the nonlinear dc polarization that Is caused by the second order nonlinear polarization. The quartz crystal is chosen as the dielectric medium. A quantitative relationship between the dc polarization and the Intensity of the propagating laser beam Is given. A convenient method of detecting dc polarization Is presented. With this technique the elements of the second order polarization coefficient can be determined experimentally. By considering a suitable detecting system wl;h a convenient configuration of the quartz crystal. It Is shown that the output voltage of the detector Is linearly proportional to the Intensity of the laser pulse. Thus, the possibility of using this principle to build a transmission type of meter for measuring power in high-power laser pulses is presented. Preliminary experimental results on the correlation between the spikings in the dc polarization and in the fundamental frequency of laser üscillatlon are presented. The second type of nonlinear polarization presented in this report is the initiation of a study on the generation of subharmonics at optical frequencies using high intensity laser sources. The physical mechanism that is utilized for this purpose is the nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic r

The spatial motion and effective duration of a traveling plasma grating formed by two interfering femtosecond laser filaments in gases is characterized by its Doppler effect imparted on a probe pulse. The shift velocity determined experimentally agrees with the theoretical calculations. Nonlinear filamentation propagation of intense femtosecond (10 -15 s) pulses in transparent materials, such a...
متن کاملMicro-channels over the glass surface made by interaction of Ar+ laser beam and Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged glasses
Micro-channels are made over the Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged soda-lime glass surface by interaction of an intense Ar+ laser beam and the silver ions inside the glass matrix. The Ar+ laser beam reduces the Ag+ ions inside the matrix. The Ag+ atoms aggregate into silver nano-clusters around the interaction area, inside the glass matrix. Aggregation of the silver atoms and the thermal effects of the int...

متن کاملEvaluation of Crater Width in Nanosecond Laser Ablation of Ti in Liquids and the Effect of Light Absorption by Ablated Nano-Particles
Micro size craters were created by interaction of nanosecond laser beam with titanium target in liquid media. The dimension of crater i.e. depth and width is important in some applications such as micromachining. When the interaction occurs in liquid environment, the ablated materials from the target expand into the liquid. The ablated material can affect the interaction process if the ablated ...
